This month, Scayle held the sixth Practical Course on Supercomputing for Metagenomics and Microbial Diversity at the University of León. The course gathered a varied group of students, researchers, and professionals from the fields of Computational Science, Biology, and Biotechnology who sought to acquire knowledge in bioinformatics and supercomputing tools applied to metagenomic analysis.

The course focused on the use of next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques and advanced data analysis, and participants had the opportunity to learn to:
- Analyse next-generation sequencing data, essential for interpreting genetic diversity in complex samples.
- Apply supercomputing techniques to the collection and assembly of DNA fragments, optimising speed and accuracy in genome reconstruction.
- Perform annotation and analysis of sequenced data, which is key to understanding the biological significance of sequences.
- Use advanced tools in metagenomic studies, applicable to different types of environments and environmental samples.
Alongside all they learned, students earned 1.8 ECTS academic credits, endorsed by the University of León and recognised across Europe.
